Landscape Design Case Study
Problem
Nestled in a delightful wooded setting on the outskirts of Aughnacloy, Lisenderry is an exclusive scheme of magnificent detached homes. Each individual site required a unique landscape treatment to compliment their exclusive design. With a steeply sloping site surrounded by trees the development also required retaining walls at the rear of the properties. As the homes were all designed to be “turn-key” they required exclusive landscaping treatment including a range of hard landscaping paving and retaining wall products from Acheson & Glover.

Solution
The main entrance to all the homes had to have impact and was designed to emphasise the front of the houses. To achieve this the entire driveway and path area was paved using TerraPave Country Cobble and TerraPave Natural Aggregate Flags.
The first house type in the scheme “Drone House” was a contemporary style which required sympathetic landscaping. This was achieved through the creation of modern themes in the paving design such as the sweeping entrance and use of Natural Aggregate Flags to define the patio area at the rear. Created using a blend of natural stone and sands these flags are available in a range of colours. The lighter colours are ideal for creating a clean contemporary look, as is the buff finish which gives a subtle soft sheen. As they are created using natural materials the colours remain bright and fresh, improving with age. The patio is an unusual shape which is bordered with TerraPave paving kerbs to give definition.
The ‘Orchard House’ was a formal Georgian styled home requiring suitable formal treatment of paving steps and terraces at the front of the dwelling. Again utilising TerraPave Country Cobble, Cashel for the driveway, and TerraPave Natural Aggregate Flags for the patio area and paving steps. A semi-circular area of Country Cobble also helps to define the rear door of the house.
Anchor Retaining Walls were used to transform a sloping hillside and create a terraced planting area. Using this system helped minimise the visual impact of the high retained embankments on both sites, as well as providing appropriate earth retention. Due to the flexible nature of the construction of the Anchor System it was possible to construct the retaining walls without disturbing the root system of the mature trees on site.
Acheson & Glover’s landscape design service was utilised to great effect, helping to create an exclusive country retreat that blends seamlessly with the tranquillity of a mature surrounding.
