A&G provided Saga Ltd with an engineered retaining wall solution that achieved the necessary aesthetics, durability, flexibility and long-term structural performance. The chosen solution was an Anchor Bayfield reinforced soil segmental block system with the Basalt colour split-facing blocks giving the appearance of rough hewn natural stone.
A&G provided four separate products for the £104 million Design, Build, Finance and Operate (DBFO) contract for the upgrade of Northern Ireland’s Westlink and M1 (Manhole Units, Half Batter Road Kerbs, Alphacrete Phoenix Masonry Blocks & Anchor Landmark Retaining Wall System).
A&G provided over 5,000 sq m of TerraPave® natural aggregate flags (Sorrento Textured and Pollensa Textured) to this scheme. The pencil sharp edges provided by Boulevard paving (Cashel) further enhanced the scheme providing reduced rumble noise from trolleys, making it ideal for the retail environment.

Sligo Retail Park is an 18-unit out of town shopping complex. With a total size of 25,550 sq metres, the complex

A&G helped set new standards in sustainable drainage at a fabulous £25 million state-of-the-art College Campus in Leicester. The environmentally friendly Abbey Park Campus is believed to have the first Sustainable Drainage System (SuDS) in the UK to incorporate permeable paving using large element flags. A&G supplied TerraPave natural aggregate flags (1,500 sq m) using heavy-duty precision plastic spacers, Xflo Rectangular Permeable Paving (6,000 sq m) and Precast Stairs.
Tesco supermarket required a 3m high, 130m long wall to retain the upper car parking area and support a vehicle ramp between two parking areas. A&G supplied Anchor Vertica Retaining Walling (Sandstone) to this scheme.
The Tesco Extra Store required a free-standing approach ramp to their service yard. Approx. 50Lm of retaining walls were required on both sides of the ramp as it increased from nothing up to a maximum retained height of 4.2m. A&G supplied 346 square metres of Anchor Vertica (Basalt).
Tesco Supermarket required retaining walls that would support new car parking areas, access ramps and roads on their development. In all, seven walls were needed, up to a maximum retained height of 4m. A&G supplied Anchor Vertica and Diamond Retaining Wall Systems (Bracken) to this scheme.
The London Underground Central Line at Hainault has a 2:1 slope, 5m high and required a 1400mm high retaining wall to support it. A&G supplied Anchor Vertica Retaining Wall System to the 200m long structure.
Queens University now has 24,000 students and wished to replace a collection of 1960’s style tower blocks with an attractive village type environment to house over 1500 students. Poor ground conditions and challenging site topography meant that new building levels for many of the 47 accommodation blocks had to be created by introducing bold terracing, enclosed within a series of engineered retaining walls. A&G supplied Anchor Vertica retaining walls (10m in length & 2m high).
Park School required a retaining solution with a high quality finish, whilst being flexible enough to allow terraces and internal and external corners to be incorporated. A&G’s Anchor Diamond Segmental Retaining Wall System forms a 100m long curved wall which goes up to 2.8m high and creates an enclosed play and recreation area for the pupils at this school in Belper (Sandstone).
A development in Balerno, Edinburgh required innovative retaining wall solutions to meet two distinct needs; 1. River training retaining walls including flood prevention measures to the adjacent Bavelaw Burn; 2. Aesthetically pleasing retaining walls in the rear gardens of the properties. A&G supplied Anchor Vertica Retaining Wall (Brindle) to this scheme.
A brown field site, previously used as a landfill on the outskirts of Galway, was to be redeveloped for housing. Retaining walls were required around three sides of the landfill. A system was required that would be rapid and simple to build, as the excavations would be within unstable waste material. Furthermore, to avoid leaving the unprotected landfill exposed for too long, the contractor required a system that could be built in short lengths. A&G’s Anchor Landmark Retaining Wall System was used for this scheme.
Develop a retaining wall solution that had to fit perfectly within the ethos of sustainable design which is apparent throughout the project. Furthermore, all materials on the exterior of the project and surrounding grounds had to be self finishing and easily maintained throughout the life of the school, saving on resource use and maintenance costs. Approx. 350 sq m (face area) of A&G’s Anchor Vertica Retaining Wall (Cotswold Buff) was installed on this project.
