A new smart, cost-effective and environmentally friendly concrete waste re-cycling process has won local concrete manufacturer, Acheson & Glover, a prestigious award for Environmental Project of the Year at the recent Quarry Products Association NI (QPANI) Environment Conference and Awards held in Cookstown.

A unique project to stop a globally threatened species of crayfish disappearing from the Ballinderry River. White-clawed crayfish that have been introduced to a lake in local concrete manufacturer Acheson & Glover’s sandpit near Pomeroy are breeding successfully and are even finding new homes in the company’s home building bricks.

A Northern Ireland company has proved itself ahead of the game when it comes to designing and supplying specialised concrete products for the new 80,000-seat Olympic Stadium in London. Acheson and Glover was the only company in the UK able to supply 500mm deep hollowcore slabs to main contractor Bryne Brothers, for use in the podium deck surrounding the massive stadium in a contract worth £250,000.
