Brick Laying

Bricklaying in rain

Getting the best from Acheson & Glover brick

Adverse weather conditions can often have a detrimental effect on the building process. Protect newly built brickwork from rain but maintain an airspace between the brick face and any waterproof covering to avoid risk of staining. Even light rain on newly laid brickwork may wash out fine particles of cement, lime or pigment.

Heavier rain may lead to efflorescence and staining from lime-leaching which unlike efflorescence is difficult and expensive to remove without damaging the brickwork. If calcium silicate brickwork becomes very wet it may shrink and crack as it dries out. Good bricklaying techniques will produce a degree of accuracy acceptable to the eye but greater accuracy may be required for structural reasons to fit with other components.

As our Novabrik system is mortarless – it can be installed in inclement weather conditions, and doesn’t suffer from the associated problems associated with traditional brick. If you are interested in learning more about our Novabrik system and how it works click here.
