Killybegs Community Hospital
Developed at a cost of over €4 million – Killybegs community hospital is a cutting edge healthcare establishment. Situated just outside the fishing port of Killybegs it is the only hospital of its kind to boast both a digital x-ray and video conference link with the general hospital at Letterkenny.
Alphacrete masonry blocks provided the hospital with a unique exterior – placing it at the forefront of contemporary building design as well as showcasing it as a modern healthcare facility.
Alphacrete Phoenix was chosen for its rugged appearance and split faced texture, a banding of Alphacrete Corinthian was also used to draw attention to certain architectural details. The hard wearing properties of Alphacrete masonry also worked particularly well in a costal region, and have withstood the extreme weather conditions associated with the area. An extensive range of specials were also used to create the circular tower which dominates the rear of the building and helped the Architects involved to inset numerous windows easily into the design. This brought much needed natural light into patient side wards aiding in patient recovery times and rehabilitation. Overall the development is yet another example of the flexibility in design provided by Acheson & Glover’s Alphacrete masonry blocks.
