Sligo Retail Park
The 18-unit complex, marks a significant development in shopping in Sligo, as it is the first major out of town shopping centre. The site includes a 10-storey office block, 18 retail units, an adjoining garden centre, a car showroom, a restaurant and an office supplies retail unit and a 500 space car park.
With a total size of 25,550 sq metres, the complex presented numerous challenges to the developer. Both our Anchor Retaining Wall and TerraPave® Permeable paving products were used in the scheme.
Planning approval was granted with the express stipulation that drainage was dealt with in a sustainable manner with no discharge of storm water from the site to local water courses. Site investigation reports showed that the site overlaid a weathered rock subgrade which proved from site tests to be suitable for infiltration of large volumes of water.
To create a more level site, a cut and fill operation was required which necessitated the placement of up to 5 metres of overburden to the lower end of the main car park area which was supported by an Anchor Vertica® retaining wall. This system uses the patented Anchor Vertica® block manufactured by Acheson & Glover with a designed soil reinforcement using geogrid, to provide a flexible retaining wall which is aesthetically pleasing, easily constructed and a cost effective alternative to standard uninspiring concrete structures.
