Holiday Inn Express, Cleppa Park Newport
This modern 125-bedroom hotel and business conference facility situated on a new business park and sited between Newport and Cardiff was constructed by Midas Construction. The complex comprises of hotel rooms in one part and business facilities in the other. The room accommodation section is spread over 4 floor levels and business area over two levels.
Acheson & Glover supplied and installed all of the precast floors and staircases throughout the project.
The building envelope for the hotel accommodation was of traditional block & brick construction and most of the room layouts were standard in design size, span and loadings. Because of this precast flooring units were almost able to be identical in size and this was able to have a positive impact on the build programme. The business facility was a steel frame and had several curves on plan.
The brief was to maximise the Precast within this area. This was achieved with valued engineering and as a result minimal wet trades were used. This project was a success for all of the team involved for reasons such as early involvement at design stage so that any design issues could be addressed and also proposals put forward.
And once the scheme got underway-regular two-way communication by the respective contracts managers was common practice. All adopted a proactive, flexible and professional attitude.
