A breakthrough in reinforced wall engineering has taken Acheson & Glover’s product line-up to new heights with the construction of the tallest Anchor Retaining Wall of its kind anywhere in the world outside the United States.
The record breaking 10m high wall -at a prestigious housing development close to Galway city centre - is constructed from Anchor Landmark blocks manufactured at Acheson & Glover’s Fivemiletown facility.
More than two years of testing and research went into the development of the new product which is the first true, positive connection geosynthetically reinforced segmental retaining wall system available.
The 250m long structure was designed by Acheson & Glover’s engineering partner Maccaferri Ltd which specialises in retaining structures – for Galway – based Michael Fitzgerald Building Contracts.
A&G’s retaining wall sales manager, Paddy Devlin, says that normally in these type of projects, reinforced concrete is used and faced with a suitable brick.
“Landmark however was built much more cost effectively and faster than a concrete wall. In addition, its structural finish and attractive colour and texture mean it really fits in with its urban environment,” says Paddy.
