Production has commenced at the most advanced large element paving and terrazzo flooring production plant in Europe. Located at Acheson & Glover’s Toome, County Antrim operations, the 1,800 sq metres facility is currently gearing up to produce several thousand cubic metres per day of a range of paving and flooring products made from naturally coloured granite and marble aggregates. The finished materials are indistinguishable from quarried products thanks to a highly sophisticated computer controlled mixing and blending operation which produces pavers and tiles to precise colour tones.
The new production plant also incorporates a seven station automatic press and a sophisticated calibration system to ensure uniform thickness which is essential for ease of laying.
Finishing equipment includes a seven head polishing and grinding line and a state-of-the-art
carbon dioxide-based curing plant for maximum product quality and consistency.
According to Acheson & Glover’s managing director, Raymond Acheson, the £5 million investment project is aimed at exploiting the rapidly growing market for natural, maintenance free paving and flooring throughout the island of Ireland.
”Initially, we will concentrate on producing simulated granite for exterior projects. After that however, we will commence production of terrazzo flooring which is increasingly being specified for projects such as shopping malls and airports because it is very safe underfoot and virtually maintenance free.”
“As the only manufacturer in Ireland with these capabilities, we can offer a very fast and efficient service from initial order to on-site delivery.
“ In the longer term, we’re also planning to supply the GB market where demand for the products we’re making is phenomenal,” he adds.
