Paving from landscape products specialist, Acheson & Glover Group has been used to stunning effect at a new leisure and retail development next to the River Clyde in Glasgow.
Built by main contractor, Ardmore Construction, the Springfield Quay development combines a river-side promenade and a large, open pedestrian area on two sides of retail & leisure complex.
Over 4000 m2 of Acheson & Glover’s, TerraPave Natural Aggregate Flags have been laid in a combination of Rimini Ground [silver grey] and Florento Ground [charcoal grey] to create a distinctive urban piazza. The striking colour combination reflects the style and form of the surrounding architecture and brings a high degree of visual unity to the project.
Edinburgh based Architects, Crerar & Partners, who oversaw the design work were particularly pleased with the paving materials. “Much of the original river side walkway was paved in natural granite and we needed a paving that would give us that continuity of colour and texture. Acheson & Glover’s TerraPave Flags gave us this and were just right for the scheme” commented Project Architect, Donald Hodgert.

In pedestrian areas, 50mm thick paving flags have been used with thicker, 70mm flags used in clearly defined, vehicular access routes. The paving also found its way into the leisure complex’s first floor area, where they have been used in an inverted deck to provide flooring to open-air restaurant terraces.
Acheson & Glover’s TerraPave Country Cobble Setts were incorporated to provide detail banding in the paved areas and 1000m2 of red rectangular block paving have also been used to create a central circular feature area outside the main building.
