BBA ACCREDITATION FOR NOVABRIK, MORTARLESS BRICK CLADDING SYSTEM
Novabrik, the innovative, mortarless brick cladding system from building materials specialists Acheson & Glover, has taken a major step forward in winning widespread market acceptance by gaining extended accreditation from The British Board of Agrement [BBA].
In a ceremony held at the recent Institution of Maintenance and Building Management [IMBM] Exhibition in Gateshead, IMBM President George Armstrong, presented Acheson & Glover Business Development Manager, Mervyn Kirk with the BBA Certificate of Accreditation for Novabrik.
The positive BBA assessment is the latest chapter in the success of a product whose growing band of users quote installation rates that are up to three times faster than traditional brick as well as cost savings of up to 30 per cent.
The patented Novabrik system was originally developed by a leading Canadian manufacturer in collaboration with the country’s National Research Council. Acheson & Glover, based in Northern Ireland, began manufacturing the product under license three years ago. Since then it has excited significant interest from builders and developers throughout the UK and now features in a growing number of housing and commercial projects.

The system comprises brick sized interlocking tiles which lock together to form a double-lapped weather-proof outer skin for timber-framed, steel-framed, conventional block-work and concrete panel structures. This prevents water penetrating the wall and creates a weather resistant breathable skin that promotes free flow of air into the cavity.
Novabrik’s major benefit is that it is an entirely dry form of construction requiring no mortar or conventional bricklaying skills to install. That makes it cheaper to build than conventional brick walls. In addition, it can be put up in all weather conditions, putting the builder in control rather than the climate.
Mervyn Kirk is confident the extended BBA certification will help Novabrik gain widespread market acceptance.
“This is a major vote of confidence from the leading independent authoritative body for building products and systems certification, and comes at a time when Novabrik is gaining a significant foothold in the market”
“The BBA accreditation process provides customers with the assurance that the product offers outstanding performance and compliance with Building Regulations. It also takes into account the requirements of warranty bodies, like the NHBC as well as the Construction Design and Management Regulations”
“That’s on top of the product’s cost and speed of installation benefits that a growing number of users are discovering for themselves.
This makes Novabrik a very attractive proposition for projects of all sizes, particularly at a time when labour shortages and rising construction costs are beginning to bite hard,” adds Mervyn.
