Acheson and Glover has secured a major masonry order as part of the multi-million Euro makeover of Dublin’s Point Depot – Ireland’s première music venue.

The order for 7,000m2 of A&G’s Alphacrete Corinthian grooved masonry is the largest of its type to be secured in Ireland by the company for an interior project. The Point Depot refurbishment has been designed by HOK Sport, the world’s leading sports architecture firm.

The blocks – which have the weathered appearance of naturally dressed, coarse textured stone - are being used for the main arena’s interior walls. In order to create maximum design impact, the walls have the appearance of stack bonding with all vertical joints in perfect alignment. In reality they are being built in standard stretcher but each block has a 10mmx10mm groove in the centre to create a stack bond effect.

Acheson & Glover was awarded the contract on the basis of product quality and customer service together with its ability to manufacture the wide range of specials to customer specifications that are required.

The redevelopment of the Point Depot into a new 14,000 capacity concert venue is being undertaken by main contractor, Walls Construction. Work is due to be completed later this year.
