David Boland, sales and marketing director of Acheson & Glover briefs final year student David Harrigan at the company’s precast plant in Magherafelt during a recent site visit by 15 members of the University of Ulster’s Civil Engineering Society.

During their visit, the group toured the County Tyrone firm’s precast stair manufacturing operation which turns out made-to-order units for a variety of major construction projects in Great Britain. Recent orders include all of the stairs for Ferrara Quay, Swansea – the tallest building in Wales – and stairs for a world-class global research facility at the University of Sheffield.

The university society was set up in 2005 to enable students gain greater access to civil engineering projects in Northern Ireland and further afield. Its motto, Inspiration and Innovation in Engineering, reflects the society’s aim of inspiring members to further themselves within the field.
