Dr & Mrs R N Heasley of Portadown are the winners of an iPod in a competition organised recently by hard landscaping specialist, Acheson & Glover.
 
The competition was designed to identify Northern Ireland’s best-landscaped gardens from photographs submitted by their owners to Acheson & Glover’s brick and paving centres.
 
It was the Heasleys’ plans to host their son’s forthcoming wedding reception in a marquee in their back garden that provided the motivation to undertake their winning makeover.
 
Prior to the project, the long narrow grassed area to the rear of their home had been little used since the couple’s now grown up children stopped playing football there.
 
In a dramatic transformation, the garden’s gentle slope has been excavated to create individual spaces on different levels, each divided by ¾ height walls.
 
One of the keys to the success of the design is the use of Acheson & Glover’s paving products. Rimini Ground natural aggregate flags were chosen with Florento Ground detailing to give a very light feel and to complement the stainless steel finishes used for the garden’s main features. These include a contemporary water sculpture whose gentle sound gives a restful ambience to the space.

Acheson & Glover group marketing manager, Patrick McLain, is very impressed by the results. “We knew that our customers were buying our hard landscaping products for some really good-looking schemes – but we never got to see the finished results. “The competition has turned up some real gems which are a tribute to the creativity of the home owners concerned,” says Patrick.
