Consideration must be given to the design of landscape features and detailing to prevent soil or other organic matter from being washed unto permeable paved surfaces and causing joint clogging. Where banks slope towards permeable pavements, under drain swales should be introduced along the back of kerb lines to prevent soil wash unto the pavement. Areas of open planting within permeable paving should be discouraged and all areas of planting should have the growing medium carefully enclosed. Landscaping should be designed to prevent permeable paving being permanently in shade to discourage moss growth.
