Primary School Wins Dream Garden
CHILDREN from a Toombridge-based primary school will be wishing their summer away this year in a bid to make a hasty return to school.
The pupils from Millquarter PS in the town will be eager to return next term to avail of their recently completed £10,000 garden which they won in a province-wide competition. The competition, which was run in conjunction with Acheson & Glover and The Landscape Centre and promoted through U105.8 fm, proved a tremendous success with hundreds of primary school children from all over the province competing for the coveted prize of the professionally designed and installed garden.

In the end it was the winning entry from six-year-old Holly Dougan, which bowled over the judges and has since been transformed into a reality by the teams from Acheson & Glover and The Landscape Centre. Steven Thompson from The Landscape Centre said the ‘wow factor’ garden was a true testimony to Holly’s creativity as it had remained as close as possible to her winning design. “Holly showed amazing imagination and foresight for transforming an unused and run-down area into a wonderful space.
The idea was to have different sections within the garden – all with their own use and function, both recreationally and educationally too,” he explained. “It was great that the garden was completed before the end of term so that the children got to see it finished – especially Holly.” Lauren Acheson, Outside Rooms’ manager with Acheson & Glover also commended the completed work.
“The whole project was completed on a tight schedule and we are delighted with the outcome. It has been amazing to see Holly’s idea transformed from paper into a real garden and a wonderful space created for the children to enjoy now and in the future.”
